From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

TARDIES – A SERIOUS ISSUE

Tardiness has become a serious problem at our school.  In this case, numbers tell the story.  During the first two terms, we have had 1,052 instances of tardiness.  This is simply NOT acceptable.

We understand that some children are difficult to get up in the morning and that getting everyone out to school and work is challenging.  However, it is essential for the well being of our students and the smooth running of our school that children be here on time.

The first bell rings at 7:40.  Students are late if they arrive after 7:50.

Together with you, we are forming a lifetime of habits for our students.  Being on time means that they have an orderly and productive start to their day.  Being late puts them behind from the start.  If being on time for school is a priority now, being on time for work will be a priority later.

So that our students will understand that there are consequences for tardiness, we are instituting the following policy effective Monday, February 6th.

Beginning with the fourth tardy in a term, the student will keep a detention with the principal from 2:10 to 3:00 PM on the day following the tardy.  If the student accrues seven tardies in a term, the student and his/her parent will be required to meet with the principal.

We want all of our students to have every benefit St. Stephen School has to offer.  We thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

                                                                                      Sincerely, Mrs. Murphy
